Influencers are once again flocking to Instagram after new updates to the social media platform. Snapchat had been hot for a while for Influencers in terms of quick videos and photos but Instagram has taken over once again.
Instagram has added to their ever-expanding app to include Instagram Stories. What are Instagram stories? Think of the posts you put on Snapchat. The photos and videos then disappear after 24 hours. It’s not original but it is smart seeing as Snapchat is much more difficult to get followers. It was originally made for close friends to use. Instagram is for the public and it’s easier to reach the large following you may already have.
Instagram is much more preferred by users than Snapchat. It may be due to the fact that many tend to open Instagram before Snapchat. What sets Instagram apart from Snapchat is also the capabilities that brands and people can use. There are options to tag others and for stores or big bloggers, it is interactive and allows people to ‘swipe up’ to reveal whatever content, usually a website, to appear.
Brands are flocking over to Instagram because it is much easier to gain followers than on Snapchat. While the number of followers is not necessarily the biggest concern on Snapchat, it can be hard to see engagement if no one is replying or interacting with the post.
If Snapchat wants to continue to exist, it will need to begin to be able to compete with Instagram. Its platform is growing tiring and old. The only thing that is maybe helping keep them above the waters are their unique filters, but will that be enough to keep Snapchat afloat?
